Adding and processing an iPhone backup
How to upload an iPhone backup archive or choose one already uploaded, have it processed in the background, also per data type, and delete it.
From a full iPhone backup (ZIP archive) the system extracts messages, contacts, attachments, calendar, call history, device and location data and files, and places them in the chosen company's storage. Processing runs in the background in portions, so you do not have to wait at the screen even for a large backup.
Before you start
- The archive can already be in the document centre (as an uploaded document), or you can upload it here with the module's own resumable uploader.
- For cloud storage (Drive) the company needs a storage account and a target folder.
Adding a backup step by step
- Open Document → iPhone backups.
- Click Add backup (plus icon) at the top right, or Upload for a direct upload.
- Choose the Client company.
- For an archive already uploaded, type the file name into Find an uploaded archive and choose it; several can be chosen, each becomes a separate backup. For a new archive choose the file in Backup archive (.zip); the upload goes in chunks and can be resumed after an interruption.
- For the target fill in Target client company, Storage account, Drive and Folder. For cloud storage the folder is required.
- Click Save. The backup appears in the list and processing starts in the background.
Following the processing
- Each row of the list shows the state, the sizes and the queued background jobs. Filter by Name, Status, company group and company.
- The row's Details button shows the backup's data types, runs and any gaps, plus the number of extracted items per category.
- After indexing, a data type can be processed on its own: in the details click Process this type only in the type's row.
- If the whole backup must be extracted again, click Extract again.
Deleting
Delete selected backups with the bin icon. Deletion runs in the background: the backup goes into the "deleting" state and then disappears. Backups you have no access to are skipped and counted.
Example
Peter Szabó uploads a 40 GB backup of a Sample Ltd. company phone. The internet connection drops during the upload; after restarting it continues where it stopped. After saving, the list shows "processing"; by the next morning messages and contacts are extracted and the attachments are in Sample Ltd.'s Drive folder.
