Sending payment requests for customer invoices

How to collect open customer invoices in the payment request basket and generate a payment request file from them that can be sent to the bank.

A payment request is the mirror image of a payment order: your client (the beneficiary) asks its customer to pay the invoice. The request reaches the customer through the bank, and money moves only after the customer approves it.

Before you start

  • The client company needs a default bank account with an IBAN in the invoice currency.
  • The customer (payer) needs an IBAN: on the document, or as the default account of the partner.
  • A document storage rule must be set for the client company.

Steps

  1. Open Finance → Invoices, open the ⋮ menu (More actions) in the row of the customer invoice and choose Ask the customer to pay (payment request).
  2. Open Bank → Payment requests. In the basket the item amount is the open amount of the invoice and the due date is the invoice due date.
  3. If needed, open the row, change Amount, Due date, Payer IBAN or Remittance information and click Save.
  4. You can set the due date for the selected items at once: Due date from invoice, or Set fixed due date with a Fixed date.
  5. Select the items and click Generate payment request in the header. The file is stored per client in the document centre and can be sent to the bank from there.

Rules and messages

  • Only customer invoices can be sent: "A payment request can only be sent for a customer invoice - on a supplier invoice we are the ones who pay."
  • Without an open amount: "This invoice has no open amount, there is nothing to request."
  • An invoice can be in the basket only once: "This invoice is already in the payment request basket."
  • If the payer has no IBAN, the system says so with the payer's name; record the IBAN on the partner and mark it as default.
  • Generating the file does not create a transaction; incoming money is processed by the bank import.
  • The Delete button (red bin) removes the selected items from the basket.

Example

Sample Ltd. issued a customer invoice of HUF 250,000 to Example plc, due on 30 Nov 2026. It puts the invoice into the basket from the invoice row and generates the payment request. The file goes into Sample Ltd.'s document centre, Example plc approves it in its bank, and the next bank import matches the credit with the invoice.
