Interest rules and central bank base rates

How to add a default interest rule (manual rate or base rate plus margin, recovery fee) and how to enter a base rate row quickly.

An interest rule tells the system how to calculate default interest on an invoice: at a manual fixed rate or at the central bank base rate plus a margin, and whether a recovery fee applies. Base rate rows provide the base rate day by day.

Adding an interest rule

  1. Open Finance → Settlements & Interest.
  2. Click Interest rules in the header (tilted scales icon).
  3. Click Add rule.
  4. Fill in Rule name, choose Rate source, then enter Manual rate (%/year) or Margin over base rate (%/year).
  5. Tick Flat recovery cost applies if a recovery fee is due on delays under this rule.
  6. To make it the default, tick Default rule — the previous default is then cleared.
  7. Click Save. On success: “Success: Interest rule saved!”

Edit an existing rule with the row's pencil icon, delete it with the bin icon.

A rule assigned to invoices cannot be deleted. You then see: “Warning: The rule is assigned to 3 invoice(s) — remove the assignment first!”

Entering a base rate row quickly

Base rate series are maintained under Master data → Central bank base rates; a quick entry is also available at the bottom of the window.

  1. Click Add base rate.
  2. Enter the valid-from date, Base rate (%/year) and Currency as a three-letter code (for example HUF, EUR).
  3. Save. With a missing date or a rate that is not positive: “Warning: Valid-from date and a positive rate are required!”

Example

Sample Ltd.'s customer contracts stipulate default interest at base rate plus 8 percentage points. The accountant adds a rule “Base + 8” with the base rate source and a margin of 8.00, ticks the recovery fee and the default.
