Public debt balance: queries and daily schedule
How to query the public debt balance of clients per tax type from NAV, how to read debt and overpayment, and how to switch on the automatic daily query.
The Public debt balance menu shows the debt and overpayment registered by the Hungarian tax authority (NAV) per client and tax type, with the date of the query. The query can be started by hand and can also run automatically every day per client.
Before you start
- The NAV connection is set in the settings by the system operator; if it is missing, the list says: "The NAV M2M connection is not configured."
- The client needs an 8-digit tax number, and the technical user needs a representation right for this taxpayer at NAV.
Querying step by step
- Open NAV → Public debt balance.
- Choose in Company group and Client company. If you can see only one group or company, the system selects and locks it.
- Click the red Query from NAV button. It queries exactly what the filter selects: one client, a whole company group, or with an empty filter every active client you are allowed to see.
- Filter the list by Tax type, Queried from/to (or Quick range), Balance (Debt only, Overpayment only), and switch on Latest state only.
How to read the list
- A negative balance is a debt, a positive one an overpayment. Total debt and Total overpayment are summed at the bottom.
- Each row shows the query date, the source (manual or scheduled) and the NAV message.
- The Tax type list is built from the rows already queried; until a query has run, it is empty.
Daily schedule
- Click the Daily schedule button (calendar icon).
- For each client set the start and end date of validity, the PDF flag and Status, then click Save. Leave a date empty for an open end; both ends are inclusive.
- When the engagement ends, set the end date and the query stops by itself. The panel shows the time and result of the Last run.
Messages
- "The "from" date cannot be later than the "to" date — such a window would never open."
- If NAV did not run the query, the system says so explicitly: nothing is known about the taxpayer's debt in that case.
- If the technical user has no representation right for the taxpayer, the system explains that it must be authorised at NAV; replacing the API keys does not help.
- If NAV returns no balance item, the system reports that according to NAV there is no public debt.
Example
Sample Ltd.'s schedule is active from 1 Jan 2026 with an open end. On 20 Nov 2026 the daily query returns two rows: a debt of HUF −45,000 on one tax type and an overpayment of HUF 12,000 on another. The summary shows HUF 45,000 debt and HUF 12,000 overpayment.
