Recalculating the average rate of a foreign-currency account
How to recalculate the weighted average rate chain of a foreign-currency bank account or cash register with a preview, and what the system rewrites when you apply it.
On a foreign-currency bank account or cash register the HUF value of outgoing items is calculated at the weighted average rate. If earlier items in the chain changed, the average rate must be recalculated. The system first shows a preview and only writes data after you confirm.
Steps
- Open Bank → Tranzaction.
- Click the flipped scales icon in the header (Recalculate average rate).
- Choose Bank account / cash register and Currency, and set the period.
- Click Preview (magnifier). The system reports, for example: “Preview: 42 transactions checked, 3 would change. Nothing has been written yet.” The table Full chain in date order shows the opening, incoming and outgoing items and the year-end revaluation.
- If it is correct, click Apply and confirm.
Good to know
- The calculation always runs from the start of the chain (the last year-end revaluation); the period only narrows what is listed.
- On apply, the carrying values of the chain and the HUF value of the marked outgoing bank items are rewritten at the average rate; the currency amount does not change, and invoices keep their own rate.
- Nothing is rewritten in a closed accounting period: such rows are marked “Closed period - not overwritten”.
- If there is no difference: “No difference - the chain is up to date.”
Example
A September credit was recorded late on Sample Ltd.'s euro account. The accountant requests a preview for the euro account: the HUF value of 3 outgoing October items would change. After applying, the outgoing items carry the new average rate.
