Checking for and installing updates in the Update Manager
How to register the installation with the update server, set the channel and automatic updates, and check for, prepare and install a new version.
The Update Manager shows which version is running and whether a newer one exists, and guides you through the update step by step: download, verification, backup and installation. Before every update the system makes a backup.
Before you start
- Ask the operator of the update server for the Installation ID and the Registration code. The code is valid for 7 days and can be used once.
- Downloading requires that your subscription includes downloading releases.
Step by step
- Open System → Update Manager. At the top you see Installed version, Code version on disk, Licence, Last check and State.
- On the Registration tab enter the installation ID and the registration code, then click Register installation.
- On the Settings tab fill in Update server URL, choose Release channel and Automatic updates, then click Save.
- Click Check for updates. The result is Up to date, Update available, Update not allowed, Update server not reachable, Installed version revoked or Not registered.
- If an update is available, click Download and prepare. The system downloads and verifies the package, unpacks it, runs a pre-check and makes a backup. Before activation you can stop it with Cancel update.
- When preparation is complete, click Install update and confirm. During the few minutes of activation the interface is in maintenance mode.
- Follow the steps of the run on the Update log tab.
Settings

| Release channel | Stable, Beta or Development | Stable is usual for live systems |

| Maintenance window (HH:MM-HH:MM) | e.g. 02:00-04:00 | wrong format: "Use the HH:MM-HH:MM format." |
| Check interval (hours) | between 1 and 168 | the system checks on its own this often |
| Allow the central server to request an installation (not only preparation) | switched on, the central server may also start an installation | switched off, it only prepares and waits for approval |
| Backup storage | local storage or Google Drive (account and folder) | for Drive: "Choose a Google account and a folder for Google Drive backups." |
| Backups to keep | between 1 and 20 | older ones are removed |
| Notification e-mail (comma-separated) | the recipients | you are told about new versions here |
Points to note
The system also checks for updates on its own at the set interval. It notifies you once about a new version, with a warning for a security release. If an update is waiting for approval or for the window, it tries again every quarter of an hour.
Example
On Monday the administrator of Sample Ltd. clicks Check for updates: "Update available". After Download and prepare the package is verified and the backup is ready. At 02:00 on Tuesday they activate it with Install update; a maintenance page appears for two minutes, then Installed version shows the new number.
